What to Wear

Outfit Guide

It all started when…

We have emailed, nailed down a date, and a location …but here come the hard part- outfits. I know it can be a little daunting, especially when there are kiddos involved, but I have put together some thoughts to help you feel + look AMAZING.

The most important thing- I want you to feel and look like yourselves! We are doing this for a reason, right? To document this amazing, special, ever changing life of yours. We are trying to capture this very moment in time. There is no need to put pressure on yourself to be something you are not.

Do you feel like you need to run out and buy new clothes for this occasion? Honestly? I say fight it, unless shopping is something you love to do that is. I say go for that thing in your closet that makes you feel like a million bucks! The things that represent who you and your family are right now. And I always say, it is so much better to just let your loved ones feel comfortable rather than trying to make them wear a specific thing. If they are uncomfortable, it will show in the photos and in their attitude.

you want your outfits to COMPLIMENT the environment and each other.

The colors of your outfits is going to have a huge impact on how your photos turn out. Neutrals are our friends. Think of where we will be shooting when trying to choose colors. Remember, neutrals don’t stop at tans and grays. There is mustard for yellow. Forest green for green. You get it! Steer away from overly bright colors and distracting patterns. We want all the attention on you. If there is a bolder color, limit it to one piece so nothing is competing with it. Neutrals are also a winner because they will not affect your skin color!

LOOK GOOD, FEEL GOOD.

When picking an outfit, you not only want to look good but you want to FEEL good! That means if I ask you to run around in a circle and chase each other, you may not want to be wearing a restricting outfit or one that you have to re-adjust constantly. We want you to be able to sit, dance, and move around!

Think movement. It is also SO fun when clothing or accessories that can show movement by catching wind. It adds so much to photos!

true to you.

Now listen, by now you know I am not the photographer to throw up a chalk board from Hobby Lobby or use many props, but hear me out. Props can be anything that adds personality to your shoot like an old family blanket, motorcycle, your beloved picnic basket, sunglasses, etc! If you have props you wanna incorporate, let me know and we can make sure to incorporate them in a way that is authentic and true to YOU!

Need more inspo?

Check this out!

I can’t wait to capture you in this special time in your life!

Warmly,

Catherine and Devin
